As the sound of HDTV is digitally transferred, so it will provide inherently superior sound quality. One can easily notice a difference between the sound of a HDTV television and analog television.
HDTV programs are usually broadcasted in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. For utilizing this technology to fullest, you need to have the right equipment. Dolby Laboratories, Inc created this Dolby technology.
This technology is very popular for providing digital audio. Dolby Laboratories are very popular for providing reliable and superior products. Because of these reasons, Dolby Digital Surround has become the standard for HDTV.
In order to reach up to the level of Dolby, many manufacturers substitute their own surround sound systems but they fail to do so. For setting up Dolby Digital Surround Sound, you have three different options.
One way is to get a television that has high quality speakers, woofers, tweeters and Dolby technology installed in the television. If you will go with this option then you need not to buy additional equipment for enjoying Dolby Digital Surround Sound.
Next way of enjoying Dolby Digital Surround Sound with an HDTV is to connect an external set of surround speakers to the television. In this option, the surround sound set up includes a front pair of speakers, a surround pair of speakers, a center channel and a sub-woofer. In few cases, the front speakers are “powered towers.” It indicates that these towers include sub-woofers.
One very important thing to take care of is placement of these speakers. It plays very crucial role in controlling the quality of the surround sound. The placement of Center Channel Speaker should be above or below the television at the center. Place the Front Left and Right Speakers in an arc formation in line along the Center Channel Speaker. The placement of Left and Right Speakers should be at the left and right sides behind the listening position. One can also choose to wall mount these speakers.
The third option for taking advantage of the Dolby Digital Surround System included in an HDTV television is to use an external set of front speakers that can be connected to the HDTV television. This configuration is useful if there is not enough room to set up the external surround sound system and the HDTV does not come with Dolby Digital Surround installed. This isn’t true surround sound, but it is a viable alternative to those who can’t take advantage of the first two formats.
